HWNA Accomplishments for 2003
by outgoing President, Mary Smith
I feel so fortunate to have met so many great people for which I owe the thanks to HWNA. My thanks to the many volunteers that make the Historic Westheight Neighborhood Association what it is today; a caring, concerned and fun association. We just could not do all the activities without the fine people like you that give of your time and talents and participation.
Susan Maier did an outstanding job leading all the children's events this past year. To have forty to fifty children in attendance says something. Thanks for doing a great job, Susan.
The Neighborhood Garage Sale was once again the talk of many that attended. Thank you, Ann Tomelleri for organizing this.
The Progressive dinner (something new we tried this year) was well attended and I heard wonderful comments about it. Again, thank you to the three families for opening up your homes.
The 2003 Fall Picnic had to be rescheduled from its originally planned weekend to the following weekend due to rainy weather. Attendance was down, but it sounded like everyone in attendance caught up with the latest news in the neighborhood.
The Holiday Homes Tour: Carolyn Walden did a great job organizing the tour. We had several new homes that had never been on the tour. Many thanks to all that were on the tour and volunteered to help with the tour. Cannot forget the Pre-Tour Party at the Cuttings', thank you two very much.
Holiday Lights Bus Tour (something new we tried this year). I kept hearing over and over, "I can actually enjoy seeing the lights because I am not driving!" Also, "I would have never gotten to see the Longview Lights." This activity brought out old neighbors and new neighbors; it was great.
Last is the traffic-calming; still being worked on. People come and tell me how great it all looks, and, of course, I agree.
Well, my year is up, and how fast it did go. Please continue to volunteer; and pay your dues to keep this worthwhile organization at its best.
Many thanks to all, and keep up the good work - it shines.
I would also like to personally thank each board member for helping me with everything this past year.

The Christmas holiday bus tour, Thursday, December 18th, was a big success. Over forty persons participated, and many were some that we do not see often; it was very nice to see all enjoying the evening. Comments were made like, "I finally get to enjoy the lights too; I am not driving." Thanks to all that participated and made it a huge success.
