Traffic Calming UpdateThe new finials have been installed in the urns on the two entrance roundabouts and the sweet potato vine has been planted. Our project is almost complete! We hope that all our neighbors take great pride in what has been accomplished and how beautiful the results are. We extend lots of praise and thanks to Jim & Mary Smith for searching for the right finials and achieving consesnus of the committee in making the final decision. Jim also installed and secured the finials as well as set-up the watering systems on all the circles. Curt & Mary Cutting took on the job of purchasing and planting the sweet potato vine after the finials were installed. We can't wait for the vines to come spilling over the rim of the urn - thanks Curt & Mary! Remember to mark September 18th on your calendar for our neighborhood picnic and the dedication of the traffic calming project.

Turn on Your Lights to Prevent Crime!
Tuesday, August 3, is designated as National Night Out or Night Out Against Crime. Residents are encouraged to turn on their porch lights and join neighbors to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, and to remember crime victims and their families. So on Tuesday, August 3, please remember to vote, turn on your porch light, and then come to the HWNA general membership meeting at 7:15 p.m. New Crime-fighting Area Includes Westheight
The U.S. Department of Justice has designated a two-square-mile area of KCK as a "Weed and Seed" site, and it includes a portion of Westheight. The crime prevention program aims to weed out crime and drug trafficking. The "seed" portion is targeted at preventing crime through education, intervention and revitalization. Both aspects can work with neighborhood groups, and your HWNA board is already contacting the KCK Police Department to invite a speaker to make a presentation at one of our general meetings. The Weed and Seed area is bordered by Parallel Parkway, Minnesota Avenue, the Missouri River and Twenty-second Street. Ice Cream Social Wrap-upFor the second year in a row, we have had an enjoyable gathering of neighbors in Triangle Park to celebrate Independence Day. We sat in our chairs and on blankets, eating ice cream sundaes and cones, and waited anxiously for what turned out to be a 45-minute firework spectacular provided by neighbors. By nightfall, we were a group of at least fifty people gathered in the park as others set up chairs in their driveways and enjoyed the sights from there.
